Fiery Dragon Scarf

I'm pleased to share this pattern with everyone. The inspiration for the scarf came directly from my son. He had been wanting a scarf all his own after watching me knit them for myself and others. I looked all over for a fun kid's scarf pattern...but such a thing just really didn't exist. This scarf, as knit, fits a 3 year old. You can adjust the length of the body to fit anyone in your family. I wanted the scarf to be comfortable, warm, and fun, yet practical. All of the features on the face are kid-safe. They are all sewn on with yarn or thread. There are no buttons or beads to fall off.

I would rate this project Intermediate-Advanced. The knitting itself isn't too hard...but there are lots of steps. I included extra photos in the pattern. I can post more here if more clarification is needed. I look forward to seeing everyone's interpretation of the pattern. This is my first design. It has been proofread by a professional knitting designer, but mistakes can happen. Please let me know if you find errors in the pattern, or something that could be improved or simplified. Click on the following link to download the .pdf file Fiery Dragon Scarf Pattern

Thanks for your pattern, it was terrific! I am a newbie knitter and that was the third project I tackled. I finished today the first dragon and I am going to make a second one to mail to Spain, for my nephew and my niece (twins, 2 year-old) They are going to adore it! It was easy to follow (despite my incompetence) and lots of fun. I knit a lot in the hospitals where I work as medical interpreter and everybody was fascinated! At Children's Hospital of Philly, I had a bunch of kids surrounding me! :o)

This was so fun to knit, thanks for putting this together. I have a question for you too--

The pattern is in a PDF file and I want to be able to post a PDF on my blog, how did you do that? If you don't mind I'd really appreciate the help on this. I'm at scribbit [at] gmail.com.

ry much for this great pattern. I've made it for my 5 year old grandson who is altogether too grown up for dolls of TV characters like his baby brother, but hates to be left out.
Its perfect because he can wear it, or tear about frightening people with it, and even cuddle up with it in bed, without feeling too babyish.
Thanks for sharing your expertise.

Thank you so much for this pattern, I found it during a search for something different for my grandson (5yrs old), I thought it was cute and made it for him. My son was very jelous that his nephew got a cooler scarf than him(mind you he has several and gets about 15-20 pairs of handknitted socks) so I had to adjust it and make him one also... by the way he is almost 20 yrs old. Oh, and yes his friends all want one too... guess I know what I will be making for everyone's birthday. Again, thank you!

Hi, I love this pattern. However, I do not knit at the moment (am trying to learn) and am wondering if anyone knows how to convert knitting instructions to crochet instructions. If you do, please send themk to me at jwmiller@gulftel.com Thank you in advance to whom ever can do this for me. I have tried doing some other patterns but have not succeeded.

I am looking forward to seeing some or all of you on my blog as soon as I get it set up. I will be putting out crochet patterns for those who crochet "instead" of knit or crochet "and" knit.

Hi, I'm knitting the scarf now, and I have a question. What will happen to the felt eyes and teeth in the wash? And how well will the stuffing launder?

Since the scarf is for a toddler, it's definitely going to have to go into the washing machine. Thanks!

For those looking for the pattern, it's in the listing down the right of the web-page under "Free Patterns"...not sure why the links in the article aren't working but after clicking everything I could think of as well as doing a google-search, I found it under "Free Patterns" and downloaded the .pdf with no problem.

Would love to make this for my grandson, but can't locate the appropriate color yarn. any suggestions?? Thanks.

MeezerMama said...

Thanks for creating and sharing the pattern. I am excited to start making this.

I have a constructive suggestion. Instead of felt for the teeth/eyes, I plan to use fleece. I think fleece will survive washing much better than felt.

Can you please send me this knitting pattern as I can't download it. Thanks

For facial features. It says repeat rows 11-18. Then row 27 starts. Do I need rows 19 to 26?

Thanks,
Kathi

Maloma said...

Kathi, Aren't rows 19-25 a repeat of 11-18?
I have't finished this yet, but I'd think that that is what it is.
HTH, M <><.

Maloma said...

sorry... 19-26 a repeat of 11-18... the count is the same. (19 is 11, 20 is 12, etc.)
